Khao Yai

19th-21st March 2017
Khao Yai National Park
This is another important national park and covers over 2000 Square kilometres.  It is closer to Bangkok than Kaeng Krachen and therefore attracts quite a lot of visitors.  There are various roads and trails through the park and more open areas than the part of Kaeng Krachen that we saw.

We stayed here two nights before heading south to Phang Nga.

There were some impressive trees at Khao Yai

Blue Pitta - Probably the star bird of Khao Yai.  This was seen at a known stake out for the species.

Blue Pitta - See short video clip below.

Red-headed Trogon - Only a few sightings of the various Trogon species.
As usual they were perched, often fairly high and moving rather infrequently.

Orange-breasted Trogon
Ashy Woodswallow  - Seen on several days during the trip.

Chestnut-headed Bee-eater   - Only seen at Kao Yai.

Olive-backed Sunbird -  A fairly common Sunbird.
Violet Cuckoo - A fairly scarce species only seen at Khao Yai.

Another chance to see a Long-tailed Broadbill, this one appearing to hang in midair!

Black-winged Cuckooshrike   - and below.

Leaf Warbler - Probably a Yellow-browed.

Samba Deer - A large stag not too perturbed by our close proximity.

Red Muntjac  -  Photographed from the vehicle at the Great Eared Nightjar.

Pig-tailed Macaque  and below with youngster.
